Ethan Hawke has entered the building! Jonathan Marc Sherman's new play Clive, starring Hawke as an aging rocker, officially opens February 7 at off-Broadway’s Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row. Directed by Hawke, the New Group production also stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Zoe Kazan and Brooks Ashmanskas. Clive is scheduled to play a limited engagement through March 9.
Set in New York City in the 1990s, Clive tells the story of an extravagant songwriter who falls into an ecstasy of self-destruction. Inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s 1923 play Baal, Clive features a selection of classic American songs performed live by the cast. In addition to Hawke, Kazan, Ashmanskas and D’Onofrio, the Clive cast includes Sherman, Stephanie Janssen, Mahira Kakkar, Aaron Krohn and Dana Lyn.
The Clive creative team includes set designer Derek McLane, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Jeff Croiter and sound designer Shane Rettig, as well as music and sound sculptures by Gaines, and live violin performance by Lyn.
